When searching for luxury SUVs in the Lancaster area, you’ll come across quite a few different models that all seem quite similar at first. However, when you start to explore the details you’ll begin to find where certain models stand out among the rest. One such model is the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300, and we’re here to compare it to its closest competition, the Audi Q5.
What’s Under the Hood
Both the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 and the Audi Q5 come standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, a staple arrangement for modern mid-size luxury SUVs. The Audi model makes 248 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, a figure it shares with the Mercedes-Benz model. However, the GLC 300 pushes out an additional seven horsepower which, when combined with the 273 pound-feet of torque, makes for quicker acceleration.
Helping get that power to the ground in the Audi Q5 is a seven-speed automanual transmission that you can take control of with paddle shifters or leave in automatic mode depending on your choice. The transmission in the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 features a near-identical automanual arrangement, but it comes with nine forward cogs rather than seven. The additional two gears give you more control over power delivery and torque, which is especially important when towing or managing slippery terrain. In addition, a higher cruising gear contributes to the 29 mpg highway fuel economy you’ll find with the Mercedes-Benz model, as opposed to 28 mpg in the Audi Q5. That one mpg difference might not seem like much at first, but over the course of a year those miles can add up to big savings at the pump.
